Bigger and bigger every year

Eighteen years ago the very first Yankees Cars & Classics was held in Lycksele. Then as now, the event was arranged by the group of friends known as Pharaohs. During the first years, the majority of the cars that cruised into the meet were those from local towns in the region.

”Today we have cars from a far away as Hudiksvall to the south, Kiruna to the north and Norway to the west”, says Mikael Jakobsson, chairman of Pharaohs.

Yankees Cars & Classics gets bigger by the year

In 2008 the event was moved to “Gammplatsen”, a pleasant national trust area containing a lot of local history. The site contains around 40 buildings which display exhibitions and recreate traditional environments. Uniting Yankees Cars and Classics with Gammplatsen was a huge success – park your car nearby, grab the picnic basket and the whole family can enjoy a day out.

The party starts on Thursday

From Thursday onwards, Ansia Camping is full of veteran vehicles and enthusiasts. Many wander round the camp site with a beer, others find bargains at the veteran market or take part in the veteran rally. Some members of the family spend their time at the swimming pool or the zoo.

Full steam ahead for three evenings in the town centre

For three nights in a row, everyone who visits Lycksele has the chance to experience a positively simmering nightlife. Sweating rock bands fill the night air with their nostalgic songs, the streets are filled with cars, their newly polished chrome gleaming in the sunlight, and in the marquee friends gather to drink beer and swap stories.
